    Description

Very old European brass coffee grinder that has been professionally lacquered to prevent tarnishing and that weighs approximately 5 pounds.  The coffee grinder was purchased by the seller at a Vienna, Austria antique shop in the early 1970’s.    There are a few scuffs on the coffee grinder’s lacquer finish and there are some small dimples and wear marks on the brass that were there at the time of purchase.    Scuffs on one of the corner posts has caused some tarnish on the post and there is some tarnish on that portion of the base that is in front of the ground coffee drawer caused by lacquer wear from opening and closing the drawer.   There are no maker markings on the coffee grinder.
The handle on the coffee grinder rotates without difficulty and has a lion as part of the handle decor.  The drawer that receives the ground coffee opens and closes with relative ease. This drawer has a front plate and knob of solid brass but the balance of the drawer is made from another metal that was tin plated at one time.   Almost all of the drawer’s tin plating is now gone and there is some rusting on the drawers non-brass components.
The top brass portion of the coffee grinder manually rotates with ease and, when rotated, this opens the slot at the top of the coffee grinder through which coffee beans are fed into the coffee grinder.  The coffee grinder measures approximately 5 1/8” x 5 1/8” and is approximately 9¼” high at its highest point.
